The upcoming thriller – which is based on John Wyndham’s novels -sees a small town rocked by a supernatural event where the women become pregnant by parasitic aliens.

Yes… aliens.

It’s A Sin’s Keeley, 46, stars as the gifted psychotherapist Dr Susannah Zellaby supporting those affected by the mysterious events at Midwich, and after her daughter Cassie (Synnove Karlsen)is one of those affected by the phenomenon, she becomes desperate to figure out what or who is behind it.

However, Keeley revealed that while everyone kept their composure when it came to tackling the challenging scenes, it was actually the children that helped keep everyone sane.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press, she said: ‘When you’re doing a show like this it stretches your imagination.

‘When you’re doing scenes that are heavy and emotional, it’s nice to step out of things and keep things light and having children around all the time is very useful for that.

‘They’re so blissfully unaware of any problems that might be going on with the shoot. It’s quite a good lesson to learn, be more like them and be in the moment. It was lovely being around them.’

When asked what gravitated her to the script, Keeley – who is no stranger to the sci-fi genre after starring as Ms Delphox in the Doctor Who – expressed that the script felt ‘different and unusual tonally.

‘It felt like a weird alternate reality, so it was really exciting. She’s known by lots of families and the children are her patients. Her daughter Cassie has had various problems with mental health and addictions.

‘She hasn’t been able to help her own daughter which acts as frustration for her.’

Due to the show’s premise, Keeley and her co-star Synnove also shared whether they believe in extraterrestrial life.

‘It would be small-minded of us to write off the possibility that there’s something else outside there in the universe beyond human beings,’ said Synnove.

‘But alien babies, I don’t know,’ she quipped.

Midwich Cuckoos will be available to stream on Sky Max and streaming service NOW from June 2.
